The NEP-NCF for School Education emphasises the need for children to know the scientific and cultural heritage of India.
It says "The rich history of Indian contributions to various fields (also referred to as Indian Knowledge Systems) incorporated throughout the curriculum, as this not only develops pride and self-confidence, but also enriches learning in those areas."
While the document represents a policy, schools and educators are looking at relevant and creative ways of integrating Indian Knowledge Systems into the school curriculum.
In this context, CIKS at IIT Madras and Anaadi Foundation have created an IKS learning pathway for schools and Anaadi Foundation has created systematic curricular content through books, activities and videos to make this integration smooth.
For School Leaders and Educators
To share this with parents, school leaders and educators, we are organising a workshop on Indian Knowledge Systems for Schools.
Objectives:
* Bringing out the relevance of IKS in current schooling
* Co-exploring ways of integrating IKS into mainstream education:
~ Teacher Training and curricular integration
~ IKS Clubs
~ IKS Science Fairs
~ IKS Olympiads
~ IKS Camps
* Providing exposure to possible scientific content and curriculum aligned with NEP
Schedule:
9.30-9.45 am: Registration and tea
9.45 -10.30 am: Welcome and Inaugural address
10.30 -11.15 am: Panel discussion on Why IKS
11.15 am - 12.30 pm: Curriculum and Content: How to integrate in schools
12.30 pm - 1 pm: Q&A session
1pm onwards lunch
